Spotted by the keen eye of Kenneth R. Johnson, we now consider the strange cover of Avon Fantasy Reader # 2.

The cover artist for the book is unknown.

According to Ken:

The dragon was clearly copied from the Rudoph Belarski cover for Argosy, April 22, 1939. The creature riding the dragon was copied from a drawing by Harry Clarke for a 1925 edition of Faust.

Imitation may be the highest form of flattery, but this one was taken to the extreme.
